July update!

My updates won't be as often anymore because by now, we are settled and there isn't as much to talk about! I'll try to avoid just talking about our boring routine events after this post :)

Tuesday, July 10th, we had a spouses social for Dan's squadron so I was thankful to meet a few more ladies! We had a great time eating foods from home, playing games, and chatting.

Wednesday, the loaner furniture was finally picked up so we could finally spread our stuff out instead of having two of everything in our house! And we could put together our dining table and chairs now that the dining room wasn't full of furniture :D

Thursday, the kittens had shots and Dan was in a class, so I had the car all day for the first time. So I dropped him off at class and was able to drive to school instead of walk! After school, I brought the kittens to the vet for their second shot of vaccinations. They did a great job once again! They are now up to 2.15 pounds :) Gettin chubby!

Then, I went off base to meet one of the girls from our small group for coffee. I was surprised I didn't get too lost! It turned out that the first place, Coffee Casa, was closed for some reason. So we went down the street to a different one that was very small and quaint. That night, we had small group at a difference place as they take turns hosting. Its fun for us to see so many different styles of off base housing. They all seem pretty nice except for the parking.... as there is none except for one spot usually. But we all parked each other in and it worked out. Good day overall!

Friday night, we decided to go to OCF, or Officer's Christian Fellowship. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming! Great night there too.

Saturday, we stayed home and cleaned the house and put together our dining room table and chairs! Finally I think our house is complete! Then, we went to a scuba shop on a nearby base and were able to rent a couple life jackets to go snorkeling. I believe it is required to wear them while in the water here, so I was thankful they rented them out for free! That night was our neighbor's 3rd birthday party, so we hung out for a little bit and got to bounce in the bouncy house =) Nothing like feeling like a kid again! Unfortunately, the mosquitos started to ge the best of me so we had to head in. We watched an episode of Castle, my new addiction, and then had a lovely Facetime chat with Dan's mom and grandmother (who is visiting NY from FL)! Gotta love technology!

Sunday, July 15th, we were going to attend the night service at a different church so we could go snorkeling. So we got all our gear and headed to Maeda Point. We were quite surprised by the number of people out there snorkeling and scuba diving! Once we got in, we knew why! It was beautiful there. Although we didn't see a whole lot of fish, the ones we did see were full of color and the coral was amazing! We swam around probably for an hour and then headed back to get ready for church. When I took my mask off, Dan noticed a little bump next to my eye. (I did have a terrible experience when I was a kid with getting a mosquito bite by my eye that caused my eye to be completely swollen shut, so I was a little scared.) It kept swelling that night and over the night, and looked terrible by the morning. Needless to say, we didn't make it to that church service! Dan ran out and got me some Benadryl which I think helped.
The stairs went right into the water where we started snorkeling.

Popular scuba diving spot. Can you tell?

Sunny!

Can't wait to go back and explore more!

Monday was my interview at the Okinawa Christian School International. It was about a 25 minute drive from our house. I had the car again and was able to drive myself (after of course we found the school a couple times before this). I had no trouble getting there, found the office, and waited to meet the superintendent. The interview went well! They actually Skyped in the principal as she was in the States. I felt a little odd talking to the Ipad rather than the people in the room at times, but it worked out. They asked a few questions, and I asked a ton. I realized that it was as much me interviewing them as them interviewing me! If I was going to take a full time job at this school, there were lots of things I needed to know about the administration, classes, and curriculum. He even gave me a little tour of the classroom I would be in, if offered the job. Overall, good experience! Then, I headed back to base to catch the last couple hours of summer school (and tell the teachers all about my interview!)

Tuesday, I babysat 3 of the neighbor kids for a couple hours in the morning. Sadly, one of the families PCS'd so now we have 4 empty houses to our left. Hopefully they fill them so we have neighbors again soon!

Wednesday, the 18th, I was really thankful to be able to chat with my parents, aunt, and grandparents before school! It was good to see them for a little bit.  Dan had another class that day and got home around 5:30 (class went about an hour late). Then, he got called into work by like 5:45 and neither one of us knew why. When he got home, he had some pretty crazy news! Starting immediately, he will be the Flight Commander (rather than the Assistant Flight Commander). Apparently, they are moving the current Flight Commander up a level to take care of some upcoming events, leaving the spot open for Dan. So lots of responsibility for him now with a big event coming up in August and September.

Thursday, the 19th, I had school, Dan had work, and then we had small group. I think this was the first day I truly missed the United States. And you know why? PANERA! I was having the craziest craving for some broccoli cheese soup and their baguettes.... if only that would ship well..

Friday was my last day of Summer Enrichment! I can't believe how fast the last four weeks went by. I guess its back to the easy life for me! Sleeping in, working out, chillin with the kittens... and then hopefully something else will come my way or we will get a car for me soon! We have looked a couple times, but I'm not crazy about anything. Guess it doesn't really matter though! Overall, I'm so thankful for the experience I had and the connections I was able to make. I was a little encouraged by one of the ladies from the District office that said sometimes they do wait until the end of August to hire because the enrollment is always changing.... so time for me to be patient and see what happens.

Friday night, Dan took me to a Hawaiian restaurant he had eaten at with some people from work. It was a cute little place called Ono Kau Kau. Not too bad! But I will say, I'm not quite sure how to eat bbq riblets with chopsticks! I guess I need chopstick lessons... after that, we went to OCF and continued our study through the book of John.

Saturday, we met a couple friends at a new beach/island called Ikei. We actually climbed down a path next to this bridge to get to our own private beach. The water was gorgeous, as always. But the coral was mostly dead in this area, so the snorkeling wasn't too thrilling. Still, it was a nice swim and a very relaxing afternoon! After we went home and cleaned up, we grabbed some dinner from Chili's Too (Chili's to-go) and went to the base theater to see The Amazing Spiderman. What a wonderful day!

Sunday, July 22nd, we accidentally overslept, so we went snorkeling again to Maeda Point. But this time, it was much less crowded. And the water was pretty rough with somewhat of a strong current. And the tide started to go out by the end of the hour, so it was kind of a bust. We saw more fish this time because there were less people though. Sadly, it took 45 minutes to get there, and we were only able to snorkel for about 45 minutes before having to leave. That night, we made it to The Harbor's church service (which is where we were planning to go last weekend). Another good, small church!

Hope everyone is doing well!!

Krista
