Happy Halloween!

Can you believe it is already November?! Crazy! So here is a summary from the end of October.

From about October 22-26, the base was going through a big inspection, so Dan was working the 12 hour shift from midnight to noon. Then he'd get home and sleep til about 8 pm and we'd have a little bit of time together before I had to get to bed. I spent time enjoying my spiced pumpkin candle, a cup of tea, and Glee or other tv shows. I even made dinner a few times which is harder to do when you are alone. On the left is a chicken alfredo with bacon, and the right is beef and broccoli. Yum.

Checking our mail was quite exciting that week because I received a set of Elephant & Piggie books as well as the little stuffed characters that I ordered from a super nice family owned book store! I found the entire set on Amazon but they wouldn't ship priority so it would have taken a few months to get here, so I contacted the seller and we ended up doing it separate from Amazon. I actually called and talked to the guy so we both knew we were legit. Yay for honest business owners! Anyways, I fell in love with these books in college and found that the kids thought they were hilarious. They are really simple books that also tie in a character trait, so I can take a book a week and discuss sharing, being a good friend, responsibility, etc. So excited to read them all to a class someday! I also received a big box of my old school stuff from my parents. It was like Christmas going back through it all!

Saturday, October 27th, I went to a baby shower for a friend from our small group. She is due in just a few weeks so we'll have a new addition to the group! :D We met at Macaroni Grill on another base and enjoyed our own little private back group for lunch. We played a few games (I won the "Military Friends are Chosen Family" sign!), opened gifts, and then headed to Cocok's for pedis! All the photos from the shower were taken by our small group leader who takes professional pictures and is wonderful! It was a great time of relaxing and spending time with a great group of ladies.

That evening, I really wanted to go to the Fall Festival that our base was putting on, but we didn't have enough time before we were meeting people at Sushi Zen. Apparently, it was pretty geared towards kids anyways and we didn't miss much. Last time we went to Sushi Zen, I had the only chicken item on the menu and it was disappointing, so I actually ordered sushi this time! It wasn't terrible, but I'm still trying to get used to the idea of eating sushi. The best part was the edamame! We enjoyed a good time hanging out with friends.

Sunday, the 28th, we enjoyed another message on marriage at church and then headed home for a quick lunch before Dan went to work for a little bit. While he was gone, I decided to browse fall decorations on Pinterest. I'm never feeling crafty until I see all the cool things people have done! I was able to find a neat printout of fall words to frame. Then, we went to our one crafty store and found a super cute leaf wreath and some little pumpkins. I do miss having a Hobby Lobby or Michael's around here! I wanted to buy more but made myself stop at that. Maybe next year I'll do some more crafty fall things. That night, we enjoyed using a Chili's gift card from my parents for Dan's birthday!

Tuesday, October 30th, we had our October School Program for the parents. I had the honor of being Christopher Columbus. :) The kids were so cute each saying their line and singing little songs about Fire safety, Spanish culture, Columbus Day, Pumpkins, and Being Drug Free. Then, we had a luncheon with the parents and the day was over! It flies by when we do special things like that. I am definitely learning what to do and what not to do for special events like that.

Wednesday was Halloween! At school, we didn't have the kids dress up in their own costumes because we did a Storybook Parade. We were dalmatians with two other classes to represent 101 Dalmatians. Each kid wore a white polka dot shirt and we made little dog ears. And of course, they had to throw a fire drill in there during the older grades' parade and it was sprinkling outside. Perfect timing! That pretty much took up the whole afternoon! That night, the Danahers came over and we had yummy buffalo chicken dip and bacon-wrapped little smokies as we passed out candy. It was our first time passing out candy in our own house! We're just growing up so fast. :) It was a great time of hanging out and seeing all the cute costumes. There was even a few junior highers that danced to get more candy. haha.

We went through that entire paper bag that full of candy plus our two bowls, plus the Danahers passed out a few bags that they brought too. We only had half a bowl left by the end! It was a successful night. :)

November 1, I was really blessed to receive flowers from my teacher! I was completely surprised when she had a student bring them outside after school. We have a thing called "filling buckets" at our school when you do something nice for another teacher or student, and she just wanted to fill my bucket in appreciation for all the crazy costumes I wear and things I do for her. =)

That night at small group, we started our book study, Love & Respect. If you are married and haven't read this book, I highly recommend it! It really goes into detail on a woman's basic need to be loved, and a man's need for respect. I'm excited to go through the whole book!

Friday, November 2nd, my students had the day off because we had a Teacher Work Day for the end of the 1st quarter. I did lots of catch up projects for my teacher and she ended up putting our cubbies in the hallway so our room looked like a tornado came through! I did get to enjoy a lunch at home with Dan as he had the day off since they passed their big inspection. They definitely earned some time off after all the hours they put in for it! He enjoyed relaxing at home until he got a call around 2 pm saying the whole base was being called in for a briefing because some 24 year old airman decided to get drunk and broke into a house and punched a 13 year old and broke their tv set. He actually fell from the third floor and ended up in the hospital. This is after we have all been put on curfew a few weeks ago for another incident involving military members and locals! So it was like really?? This kid did this while breaking curfew, so I can only assume bad things will happen in his near future. So I was upset because Dan was off the whole day until I got home from school and then he had to go to work. :(  But I was able to go to the post office and was happy to see a couple Halloween cards, lots of coupons, and some Christmas presents I ordered for some family members! I caught up on couponing until he got home, and then to make up for the little incident, Dan took me on a romantic date to Seaside Ristorante at Kadena Marina. It was so lovely eating right on the water, and the food was pretty good! We ended the night by renting "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" with Steve Carell and Keira Knightley.

Dan had soccer practice this morning, so I was finally able to catch up on all that has been happening in our lives. I'll try to write a shorter one next time! :)

One last thing though! I'm super excited that we bought our turkey this week and its sitting nicely in our freezer! Less than 3 weeks until we attempt to cook our first turkey! Should be a good blog when that time comes. :)
