Lake Como

After 3 nights at Lake Garda, we took the loooong mountain scenic route to Lake Como. It was a pretty drive but with all the curves and narrow roads, it wasn’t that enjoyable for me. I was feeling carsick and nervous especially when two giant trucks had to share the road! So it took double the time. 😳 We stayed close to Varenna at an Air B&B with an amazing view and hot tub! We checked in Monday evening and left Thursday morning. We had plenty of time to explore the other nearby towns, hang out in the hot tub, and relax.

We had to take a quick picture at this lookout spot!

Here is our little apartment. The owner met us there and went through a few hours rules and showed us some things around town on a map. We had a garage that locked, a kitchen and living room with a pullout sofa, and then a bedroom that opened to the balcony. We loved being able to go out after bedtime without waking up the girls!

After we unpacked a little, we just enjoyed the hot tub!

Tuesday morning, we drove down the mountain (because to get that amazing view, you must go up!) to Varenna and bought the all day ferry pass that would allow us to get off or on at any of the other 6 stops on the map.

Our first stop was at Bellagio- a highly recommended town on the spouse Facebook page. We didn’t have any goals or places that we had to see, so we just started walking! We found some stairs and took them all the way up and explored! It was a cute little town with beautiful flowers everywhere. Then, we got back on the ferry.

Our second stop was Cadenabbia for lunch. We found a pizzeria close to the water with a view and had the whole place to ourselves! The town was not busy at all.

After lunch, we went back to Bellagio for gelato and then finally back to Varenna to play at the park and take a rest break in our room.

This was the road from the ferry to our air b&b 😩

For dinner, we visited Menaggio via ferry and found the best restaurant in the town I’m sure! The view was 10/10, and my spicy garlic spaghetti was the best one I’ve tried in Italy! I even indulged and got a piña colada which I haven’t seen on any menus here. It was a great night!

Wednesday we took it easy! We slept in and enjoyed relaxing and swimming again. A hot tub is really the perfect sized personal pool for the girls. There was a pool across the street we could have used but decided not to. For lunch, we drove about 15 minutes to Bellano. We were able to eat outside right on the water again and had our typical pizza and gelato to end the day! Thursday we just packed up and headed home.

We loved Lake Como and how causal and relaxing it was when compared to Florence or Verona. It was much more our pace.
