10 days and counting!

Well, in just ten days, our whole life will change! Since Dan got his orders, life has been crazy mostly because they didn't put me on the orders like they were supposed to. It wouldn't be a big deal if we were staying in the US, but in order for the AF to pay for my plane ticket, it was a must to get me on the orders. He just got his orders about a month ago, so this didn't leave much time for us to figure everything out. I had to get "medically cleared" at a local base which was just an interview with tons of questions about my medical history. Then, they sent us away without our paperwork because we didn't get the doctor's signature that day. This did make us quite nervous because we were running short on time already and this meant they had to snail mail the papers back to us. What an emotional day that was!

Leaving the base feeling like there was no way I would ever get put on his orders in time to fly to Japan was very depressing. BUT it turned out there was nothing to worry about. Within 2 days, we had what we needed to get me a flight to Japan and by May 1 we had our flights!

Since then, Dan and I both had our last days at work. Dan was working as a physical therapist aid at one of the hospitals downtown. (His plan is to one day become a physical therapist.) I was mostly working in the Baby House at a daycare. Although at first I was unsure about working with babies all day everyday, it turned out to be a great experience with everything I learned over the past six months! And now I miss all my babies that I got to know so well!

Yesterday Dan and I made the eight hour drive down here to Huber Heights, OH to spend some time with my sister and her husband for the last time for a while. It worked out that my parents were here at the same time so we could take some whole family photos!

That pretty much gets you up to date with the craziness over the last couple weeks! What's to come: drive to Effingham to see some friends for a few days, taking the train back to Syracuse, having the movers take all our stuff to ship to Japan, and then flying out on May 17! There is still lots of business to take care of before we leave and especially the first few weeks when we get to the island. But we are both excited to get there and start a new adventure in our life!
