Monday was Memorial Day so we just chilled all day....
Tuesday we got so much done! I got my dependent ID finally! And we got our drivers licenses, registered my ID, paid for the car and finalized the paperwork. It was a lot of running around so it took up most of the day. That night, we decided to check out the gym (we waited because we thought I would need my ID). They have a nice little smoothie bar, 2 weight rooms, and then upstairs are the machines. I think I counted 20 treadmills and 10 ellipticals and several bikes. It was pretty nice because everyone is doing their own thing and nobody really cares what the others are doing. haha. It was a good workout!
Wednesday we had our housing appointment and they gave us a move in date of June 4th! I was a little sad it wasn't sooner and we couldn't use the weekend to settle in. But oh well, it will come soon enough! Then, we went to the loan closet and thankfully found several items to borrow until our things get here (a vaccuum, coffee pot, crock pot, set of dishes, and an iron). I also found a giant basket of coupons that were free! I think my 4 envelopes have hundreds of coupons stuffed in there. Yay! Then, we went to a store called Eagle Hardware which provides basic housing items for people who live on base for FREE! They have limits on the items such as 2 shelving items per house, 1 set of lightbulbs per 90 days and so on. So we'll pick some stuff up there once we move into our house. After that, we went back to the hotel to relax for the afternoon, ate dinner, and went to the gym again. Our location right now is great because it is a 3/4 mile walk to the gym for our warm up, and then the same walk back as a cool down. Once we move in our house, it will be a bit too far for us. :(
Thursday I got to meet some of the other spouses in the Ammo group. There were 5 of us altogether which was a nice size group for me! They were all extremely friendly and helpful! I was thankful to get out of the hotel and have some social interaction with some spouses. Hopefully I can meet lots more in the near future! We had a lovely lunch, and then one of them brought me to one of the elementary schools to pick up a Sub application. Sadly, they aren't processing any more applications until August so there is nothing I can do until then. But the secretary did say that there will be some kindergarten aid positions open in the fall and maybe even some full time jobs. I was applying for some jobs at the Child Development Center, but a spouse told me that it takes about a month for the hiring process to go through. I would rather hold out for a job in the schools rather than try to work for a month this summer at the CDC, so I guess I will be unemployed for the summer, and then hopefully get a position at one of the schools either as an aid, a teacher, or a sub. The sad part is that I won't know if I get hired until at least August, so I can't get another job in the meantime. Guess I will get some good volunteer hours in!
The lady who was driving me around also introduced me to another girl who gave me all sorts of information on applying through USA jobs so it was very successul! (And somewhat overwhelming). Once Dan got home from work, we went to pick up our car! That was a scary ride home... haha I'm not really used to being in the front seat over here so that in and of itself was different. Although we were only like 600 feet from the base, it was a long ride :P But Dan did a wonderful job and we made it back to the hotel. After dinner, we went bowling on base with a guy who just PSCd in about the same time we did. The bowling alley was actually pretty nice! Might have to go there again sometime.
Today, Dan left for work at 6:15 (or at least I think...I was sleeping!) haha. He is still taking care of paperwork and in-processing things, but will have time off Monday/Tuesday to move in our house! Woot!
That's all for now :)
