Sunday, we went to a church off base that was pretty easy to find. We ended up loving it! The songs were mostly in English but we did sing some in Japanese too. It was just nice to have a little culture in the church since we are in Japan after all. We were able to meet the Pastor after the service and he was extremely friendly and helpful. We also met a few others and are excited to get to know them!
The story of our kitties....
You have probably already seen a picture of our new kittens! I think they are absolutely adorable. We went to visit them on another base about 30 minutes south of us. We went into it thinking we would leave with at least one of them based on how cute they were in the picture. There were only two of them left out of five so we felt bad taking one and separating the two sisters, so we left with both! We heard it is a good idea for them to have a playmate and we agreed. Although it is double the trouble, we think it will be worth it. They are very playful so far (once they got comfortable with us and the house) and are already litter trained! So far no accidents (let's hope it stays this way!) We have a good sized closet under the stairs that became their home. It works great because we can shut the door if need be, but we have had it open with a gate to keep them in. We let them roam around the downstairs area when we are home. But they love to hide under the couch :) We also discovered their love of the game "Farkle". haha ok, they like to play with the dice.
They have their first set of vaccinations next week as they will be 8 weeks next Wednesday! They will definitely keep me busy over the summer as I train them to read and write. They are my first homeschooling students. I'm pretty excited. ;)
Other than that, nothing much has been going on here. Dan is still doing tons of paperwork and in-processing things for work. He still doesn't have computer access so he is limited in what he can actually get done right now. And before we know it, he will be leaving for training.
We've still been settling in...mostly making lots of purchases to get us through until our household goods arrive at the end of July. The annoying thing about this whole process is that we have these items that we need right now that we own....they are just not here! So we have to buy new things to get us through. Hopefully I won't go crazy this summer living on just a few things (it is mostly kitchen items that we need).
Thursday I was able to go out with another spouse to do a little more base exploring which was great! Her girls are in elementary school so she knows several people in the school that could possible help me get a job there or I could even volunteer at their summer school program!
Friday night we had a little date night. We found a small Mexican restaurant down the road from us which wasn't too bad. I was thankful for an English menu! We had chips & salsa (which was actually pretty tasty!) and chicken quesadillas. After that, we went to a different base to see Men in Black III. GREAT movie! I'd say it was the best MIB movie so far. So if you haven't seen it yet, go check it out! It was a great date night with my hubby :D
Saturday we enjoyed sleeping in and then went to check out one of the pools on base. Right now, it is only open on the weekends. Another pool is only open during the week for lap swimming, and we aren't sure about the third pool. There were tons of parents there with the kiddos and not many young couples like ourself. haha but that's ok, we enjoyed being in the water. That night, we ventured out to meet a couple from church to grill out at their place (They had a sweet view!). It was a great time with another Christian couple that we could just chill with and reminisce about Cedarville :) What a small world huh?? (One graduated from CU and the other went there for a semester.)

Fred and I are looking into getting some kitties soon :) Your kitties look like so much fun! I bet you're glad they're already litter box trained lol
ReplyDeleteIt's gotta be hard wanting to use something...knowing you own it...but not having it yet. Hang in there sister! This is a very short season.
When does Dan leave? For how long? It's sad to be without your other half :(
We've met some Cedarville couples here too. We've found it's like name dropping. All you have to say is "I'm from Cedarville" and you're immediately accepted. It's kinda wierd but really nice :) I'm glad you and Dan met a nice couple and could hang out with them!
I'll be praying for you sister!
