First week apart!

One week since Dan left! I'll try to fill you in on what we've both been doing while on opposite sides of the world!

Dan left on January 5th and flew though mainland Japan to Seattle where two of his friends from college and my college roommate picked him up from the airport and gave him a quick tour of the city for the day! Since he went back in time, he had all of Saturday to hang out with them. I don't know how he survived that after hardly sleeping on the long flight, but I guess adrenaline kicked in. They went to a few famous places such as the Public Market Center and the troll. I feel a little weird telling you about his trip and downloading pics from facebook to show you, but oh well...I know he's not gonna do it! I was pretty jealous and really wished I could have been there because I had such a blast in Seattle when I went during my junior year spring break, but I'll be in Washington this summer for my roommate's wedding so it'll work out!

Junior year :) haha such a similar photo huh??

Saturday night, I went bowling with the Danahers and it turned out they had half of the bowling alley doing galaxy bowling so we chose that side. It was a blast! So after two pretty awful games for me (I blame the flashy lights and darkness), we went to Dunkin Donuts for some hot chocolate. :)

After church, I went with a couple from small group and a few others to try a new Turkish restaurant that wasn't too far from base. I tried a lamb sandwich for the first time in my life--pretty tasty! And when I got home, the kittens had a little surprise waiting for me. Half the cottony fuzz from under the couch and a bunch of bite/scratch marks on the side of the couch! They haven't done that for a long time so I have no clue why they started that again... so now the couch is covered up with a little table so they can't get to that side. :( Looks pretty awful.

The best part of that night was getting to Facetime Dan while he was at the airport! He was exhausted, but saved some energy for our chat. :)

Dan started his class on Monday but apparently they only met for a couple hours and then the teacher let them go! That was nice for him since he was still pretty wiped from traveling, so he took a nice long nap. They have a total of 8 people in his class and he has been a Lieutenant the longest so he is the class leader. He has a fairly nice little hotel room on base with a fridge, microwave, and sink, so he can do a little cooking if he wants. Unfortunately there wasn't Wifi in his room, so he had to buy a router so we can facetime on the Ipad. Also, he doesn't have a car down there but half the class does, so he's been able to get rides to class everyday and to meals and such in the evening. They have gone out to eat several times as a class and have gone to Wal-Mart and the mall. The class is supposed to go until 4:30 I believe, but Tuesday they had a funky schedule again and Friday they went until 6:30....so the schedules doesn't really mean much! But when he does get out on time, we are able to text a little bit before I go to school which is nice. Also, he is usually still awake when I have my lunch break so we get another little conversation. So overall, I'd say we've been able to chat quite a bit for having a 15 hour time difference.

Monday, I had a sub so I was able to plan and teach for the day which was AWESOME! Days like that just make me so much more excited to have my own class someday...hopefully next year! Besides that, nothing too exciting happened. I was able to facetime Dan every night for me (before class for him), I facetimed my roommate and caught up on her wedding planning, went to small group on Thursday, and caught up on the Bachelor, Castle, and Modern Family!

I was really excited that the Danahers invited me out on Friday night so I wasn't stuck at home! We went to Tony Roma's for dinner and then saw Les Miserable at the theater in town! It was in English with Japanese subtitles. The theater was a bit nicer than the cheap one we have on base, but we definitely paid for that. It was super simple to figure out what to do and where to go which was nice. The funny part was the commercials they played before the movie. Can you translate that picture for me please?? Overall, I was glad to experience it, but we probably won't be going back just because of the cost.

Saturday morning, I met up with a few girls for brunch to celebrate one of their birthdays. We went to Coffee Casa which I have heard about many times but have never been to. I can now say that I will definitely be going back! It was a cute little cafe with delicious coffee and breakfast foods.

When I got home, I was able to Facetime my parents to open my Christmas box that finally arrived after 5 weeks! It was a bit of a bummer that Dan didn't get to open his stuff, but I was able to Facetime him afterwards and show him what he got. :) Then, that night I went to a Scentsy party and spent some Christmas money from our grandparents. Can't wait to get my two new Scentsy pots that match my kitchen and bathroom, and some new scents like Blueberry Cheesecake and Cucumber Lime.

Today I went to the late service at church and then went out with two couples to eat at Chili's (which was perfect because I received a Chili's gift card in my Christmas box!). Then, I spent the day relaxing a bit, getting groceries and a bigger litter box, did some dusting and vacuuming  and waited for Dan to wake up! As you can see, my blog is not nearly as interesting now that Dan is gone! So I might not write as often, but I have so much free time now, so we'll see!
