Saturday, we went to a going away dinner for two couples in our small group. We met at a cute little pizza buffet called Ocean's Pizza and enjoyed a lovely dinner with the group! The group gave the couple with kids a little picture book of all their "aunts and uncles of Okinawa" and a bracelet to our leader's wife. :) It definitely won't be the same without these two couples around. Afterwards, we invited ourselves over to the Danahers to play a new game we gave Claire for Christmas that was a mix of Phase 10 and rummikub. It was a great night!

Monday morning, I was able to Facetime with my sister and her husband and my parents for their little Christmas celebration! Although the internet connection wasn't the greatest on our end, it was great to be able to see them open their gifts from us and see what they got for each other. Praise the Lord for technology that makes it possible to see family thousands of miles away!
That afternoon, we ran to a few furniture stores and little shops to find some new decorations. Since we took all the Christmas decorations down yesterday, our house seems so bare! We did find a few things and tried to get them up before company came, but didn't quite make it because we had to do a little cooking (buffalo chicken dip of course!) and cleaning before we spent New Year's eve with the Williams and Whites from small group. We ended up having a Modern Family marathon the whole time! Because of the curfew still in place for military members, they had to head out by 10:30 so it made for a unique New Year's Eve.

We decided to go exploring on New Year's Day. We got a little lost at first and discovered this giant trash pile. Not sure what that is all about...but it was definitely odd and very tall. Then, we found a dam and some castle ruins!

Dan decided to take me out on a date Wednesday night to my favorite Italian place, Marino's. Once again,we had to get the cheese fondue, salad, pizza, and dessert. I also tried the cappuccino machine (that was disgusting) and some caramel tea (not too bad!). Then, we did a little shopping, bought the two brown baskets for the bookshelf, and headed home. Gotta love a good date night!!!

Thursday, I was feeling pretty crafty, so I found a canvas at our craft store, bought some glue, and some paint brushes. I made my own Mod Podge and attempted to make my first canvas! I printed off the sign on photo paper and attached it to the canvas to go with our coffee themed kitchen. I also tried to make some glittery candles. Here is how our living room ended up like for now! Decorating a house, starting from scratch in a foreign country is a bit difficult so don't be too hard on us. :) We're getting there...slowly but surely! That night, we had small group and then came home and played cards- our new nightly favorite thing to do.

Friday was our last day together, and thankfully Dan came home from work around 11 am! We didn't really do anything special, but it was a really great day. He did some packing with the help of the kitties, I made a yummy dinner, and we played cards and rented The Lorax. It was a low-key, relaxing, good day!

And that brings us to today- the day Dan left! Sean picked him up around 8 this morning and we said our goodbyes. (I thought it would be easier on me to not drag out the goodbye by going to the airport and having to drive back in crazy traffic in an emotional state!) His flight left around noon and he had about a 2 hour flight to Osaka in Mainland Japan. Then, he had about a 4 hour layover. Thankfully, he was still in Japan and was able to keep texting me so we could talk most of the day. He boarded his plane for Seattle around 5:45 pm and that was the last I've heard from him! A cool thing about Delta's website is that I can see where the plane is right now--over the Pacific ocean...not much to see. He should get in around 11am Seattle time and then get to hang out with a few friends from college as they give him a crazy awesome and quick tour of the city! I'm really glad that worked out for him to break up his long trip and starting school. :D Yay for having friends on the west coast.
I didn't accomplish a whole lot today. I watched Flushed Away and Horton Hears a Who, did some pinterest surfing, cleaned our room, and then went bowling with the Danahers! It was my first time galaxy bowling- crazy huh?? It was definitely a little trippy... all the flashy lights and stuff. I think it effected my score because as you can see, I scored a 36 the first game. At least I improved by the second game though. Then, we got some hot cocoa from Dunkin Donuts and chatted for a bit. I'm thankful to have friends that are willing to hang out with me while my hubby is away. That will definitely make the time pass much faster.
So let the countdown begin...Dan will be at tech school in Texas until mid March and then will go to Syracuse to see his family for a little over a week. That means he'll be home in 11 weeks! It will be a challenging time for us...mostly me probably... because this is our first time apart. I guess it is time for me to start being a tough military wife and make the most out of our time apart. Keep us in your prayers though. :)
Love,
Dan and Krista

After that busy day out and about, we decided to play cards, toast with our root beer and orange soda and watch a movie. :)

| This matches our wall divider so well! Too bad it looks pretty bad against that color on the walls... |
