Emma's 3-4 month update

It is hard to write this blog every month, so here is a combined 3-4 month update from April 14-June 14.

Between 2-3 months, Emma showed us that she recognizes us! When I picked her up from daycare a few times, she would track me across the room and smile/get excited. That was exciting for me knowing that my baby girl knows who I am. She also started to cry more when Daddy dropped her off in the morning letting him know that she wasn't too happy about being left there. Daddy wasn't a fan of that.

She also started to grab her clothes and grab my hand when it was above her. She'll also grab at toys now a little bit and will hold on to things that we put in her hand. She is so close to being able to put her binky back in her mouth if it is in her hand, but she hasn't quite figured that out yet.

Everything else is going great! She still eats 3 oz every 2 hours at the daycare and I am SO happy that I have been producing enough for her to eat. I started taking Fenugreek and purchased some lactation cookies from a lady on base and that really boosted my supply. Now I actually can pump what she eats in a day, or I can easily make up for it on the weekend. I won't miss all the pumping once school is out though!

Once Emma hit 3 months, she started doing new things every week! She had her first laugh just after she turned 3 months. We had just given her a bath and were playing peek a boo with her and her towel. I grabbed my phone to take a video because she was cooing so much and she normally doesn't coo very often. Then, she decided to give us a little giggle on video!! I was so happy about that. It was adorable! She also was cooing up a storm one day when Dad had the day off and Mommy was at work. Her little noises are too precious, especially when in conversation with us! Dad also tried out the Bumbo and exersaucer for a little bit that day and she did great in both. She was way too short to reach the bottom of the exersaucer though. We'll give her a few more months to grow.

At 3.5 months, Emma gave us a big surprise and rolled from her back to her belly at school! She had been close over the weekend and would just end up on her side. Then, when I went to pick her up one day, they told me she figured it out and rolled all the way over! I was so surprised, and a bit sad of course since I wasn't the first one to see it happen. At the same time, I know she spends a lot of time on her back at the CDC so it wasn't a huge surprise that it happened there first. We don't really just put her on her back for hours at night. I tried to get her to roll after school but she had to eat and take a nap so it was a no go. Finally, she started to roll after a diaper change that night so I grabbed my phone just in case, and she ended up going all the way over! I was shocked. Our little baby is growing up too fast! About a week after that, she had a few accident rolls from her belly to her back when she was rolling over. We'll see if she figures that one out soon. She loves to be on her belly now and has great head control and pushes her chest up too.

Lately, she also started scooching on her back by kicking her legs and picking her back up off the ground. I'll put her on her diaper changing mat on the floor to go do something and come back to find her 3 feet away from where I left her! That's gonna be trouble! I don't know if I'm ready for all this movement!!

Just before 4 months, she really started talking a lot with us and to herself. She also interacts with Jeff the Giraffe a lot. We velcro it above her swing so she swats at it and grabs onto it while she is swinging. On the day she turned 4 months, she figured out how to bring a toy to her mouth to chew on it. She loves to chew on her fingers and I'm still trying to figure out if that means she is truly hungry or just enjoying discovering her fingers.

In the past 2 months, Emma has had a cold, a cough, and thrush that just won't seem to go away. She first had it on Mother's Day and the medicine cleared it up in a few days but then it came back and it'll go away and then we'll stop the medicine and then it comes back. I was treated too but I guess we are doing something wrong. We have her 4 month checkup on Friday so we can ask about it. Thankfully, none of those are too extreme. I had no idea what all she would pick up from the CDC. Over the weekend, Emma has been pretty clingy and almost seems scared at times. We met up with some friends Friday and Saturday and Emma made this awful pouty face at the girls when they were talking to her/looking at her/holding her. Then, she would calm down when we held her. She did this a few weeks ago too when we were at a dinner with Dan's coworkers. I think she is just realizing who strangers are and she doesn't quite warm up to them in a short amount of time. I don't know at what point in a baby's life they are aware of strangers and can be clingy to parents, but I felt like that is what she was doing this weekend.

Overall, it's been another great few months with our sweet girl! Her personality shines more and more every day. She is a great baby, sleeps so well, is happy most of the time, and eats well! She normally goes to bed between 9:30-10:30 and then I wake her up around 6 am to feed her before work. Weight wise, she must be at least 12 pounds by now- double her birth weight! She is now growing into 6 month clothes and wearing size 2 diapers. We bought a ton of 3 month clothes for the summer thinking they would fit for a while, and she is outgrowing them so quickly! Now we have hardly any 6 month clothes. It is mostly the pants that are too tight or too short. Time to go shopping again!

Emma had her last day of "school" today, just after turning 4 months. I am so happy to get to stay home with her now that school is out. I won't go back in the fall because we will be leaving here around October/November to go to San Antonio. So time to be a stay at home Mom! It's such a great time too because of all the things she starts learning between 4-8 months. I have a feeling she'll be an early crawler, but does every parent say that? She seems like she wants to move around all the time. She is close to rolling to the left from her back to her belly, but she basically just rolls to the right from back to belly. We'll see what happens soon!

Here is a random selection of pictures from the last 2 months.

Beach Day!

My 1st Mother's Day! Dan set up a beautiful table for me, and I was quite surprised when I came downstairs in the morning!

Breakfast at a Hawaiian Pancake place- yum!

Happy bath time- her first laugh!

Saturday morning cozy time!

At the new Babies 'R Us, they have a scale to weigh your baby! She was 11.1 lbs in this picture.

I love family selfies!

First time in the ocean! She did pretty well. She slept through most of the beach day though.

Last but not least, her 4 month pictures! She's getting so chunky! At her 4 month appointment, she was 11 pounds, 11 ounces which was the 11th percentile, and she was 24 inches long! Someone is getting tall!

Somebody is growing fast! She also gets progressively happier. Haha
